Our Mission
The General Henry Champion Trust, Inc. is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, and historical purposes. The Trust is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and protection of the 1790 General Henry Champion House in Colchester, Connecticut — an architecturally significant, Federal-period structure listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Our purpose is to restore the house and its historic landscape as closely as possible to their documented original appearance, including architectural elements noted in the National Register nomination such as the gambrel roof, Ionic-columned entry portico, triangular-pedimented dormers, twelve-over-twelve sash windows, and the historic stone wall and setting.
The Trust conducts historical research, architectural conservation, preservation planning, and public education activities that interpret the life and legacy of General Henry Champion, a Revolutionary War officer. All of this work is carried out to preserve a nationally significant landmark, expand public understanding of Connecticut's architectural and Revolutionary-era history, and ensure the property remains a cultural, educational, and historical resource for generations to come.
Right Now: New Roofs Installed
Thanks to early support, the house and barn both received new roofs over the weekend of August 1–2, 2026 — the most urgent step to stop further water damage.
